From the email response I have received since the last edition it seems that most people are trying to work out how they can save some money or make renovating as affordable as possible.
I suppose this is no surprise given the current economic climate but the good news is that you can renovate on a tight budget with some easy steps.

This week I would like to suggest something that a lot of people do not think about when considering a renovation, especially a bathroom renovation. Quite simply tiling over your existing tiles can save you hundreds and perhaps thousands. Doing this neat little trick will save you time and all the trouble of having to rip up your old tiles. It will save you the cost of your tiler or his labourer having to rip up the existing tiles. It also eliminates tipping fees which can very easily be overlooked during a renovation and can add up quickly. Finally, you will not need to render your walls as most tiled surfaces provide a great platform to tile over.
Modern bathroom products will still allow you to keep you bathroom waterproof with next to no fuss.
All of these points add up to saving you valuable time and money and also help to cut back on all the dust and mess tearing up tiles can produce. It is something that is very cost effective and is definitely worth mentioning to your tiler. Although it is not suitable for every bathroom it sure can be used on most. Believe me the results are fabulous and no one would ever know your little secret!
